Ajwain is a seed that is commonly available in most of our homes. Often used as a popular digestive, ajwain is often given to people in cases of upset stomachs or over-eating. This is an age-old medicine for the treatment of various stomach disorders such as flatulence, bloating of abdomen, indigestion, dyspepsia, diarrhoea, etc.

Ajwain is a Natural Pain Killer

Ajwain possesses pain killing property and is beneficial in treating ear ache. Boil milk with ajwain seeds. This will work as an eardrop and decrease congestion in the ear, helping to relieve earache. Ajwain can also help with tooth-aches. Take equal quantity of Ajwain and Turmeric in water and boil it. Wait for the temperature to come down. Keep the water in your mouth for sometime. Touch your teeth and gums with it and then spit it out. Repeat this four to five times. Your tooth ache would have been greatly reduced.

Ajwain Helps in Curing Cold and Cough

In addition to having anti- bacterial properties, Ajwain also has a remarkable power to open up clogged and congested nasal passages. Roast a tablespoonful of ajwain seeds. Tie them in a cloth and inhale the vapours. Alternatively, you can also inhale the vapours of ajwain seeds boiled in a vessel of water. This gives relief to nasal obstruction and chest congestion due to severe cold.

Ajwain Removes Worms and Parasites

Ajwain has de-worming properties. Essential oils of Ajwain inhibit the growth of bacteria associated with gastrointestinal infections like E-coli and Salmonella typhi.  Soak a teaspoon of powdered ajwain in water overnight. Boil and cool the water. Have it after you wake up and before you go to bed.

Ajwain Helps Relieve Arthritis and Joint Pain

Ajwain contains thymol, which has heat properties which unblock the toxins clogged between the joints. The regular intake of Ajwain brings relief in joint pains and the anti inflammatory properties of Ajwain help with the rheumatism. Take some water in a vessel and add some ajwain and salt in it. Boil this water and then take it off the fire. Let it cool slightly and then take a towel and dip it in this water. Squeeze it and apply this hot towel over the site of pain. Do this repeatedly for some time. This will give relief to rheumatic pain.

Ajwain Helps with Pre-Menstrual Syndrome

A mix of Ajwain with a little Jaggery (gur) in a glass of warm water, helps relieve PMS. Take this mixture  at least 2-3 times a day to see results.

Ajwain can Help Alleviate Kidney Pain

Ajwain, when taken with milk, helps relieve kidney pain. All you have to do is powder some ajwain and add 1 tbsp in warm milk. Drink this twice a day. In some cases, Ajwain has also been helpful in removing Kidney stones.
