Yesterday, a friend and I stumbled upon a delightfully decrepit and cozy little bookstore in Lajpat Bhawan ( this is in Delhi, for our out of town readers) . Being bookworms, we couldn’t resist the lure of the sign board that quite simply said ‘Book Shop’. Of course, we had to take a peek. While browsing through the amazing variety of books, we chatted with the lovely ladies of the bookstore. They shared with us that the books in this shop were donations from kind-hearted patrons. Proceeds from the sales of the books go towards helping fund the education of underprivileged children in 18 schools. The ladies at the bookstore are volunteers, who are investing their precious time and energy for three days a week towards this inspiring initiative.
The range of the books starts from as low as Rs. 10. Most of the books are pre-loved, so you will definitely get a hefty discount on your purchases. I couldn’t stop myself from grabbing a copy of a Harvard Business Review book on Work-Life Balance. My friend picked up a coffee table book on photography, and also took some picture of this quaint little store. The store is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays between 10.30 am and 1.30 pm. Try and go there as early as possible, because the weather is quite merciless these days in the afternoon. Lajpat Bhawan is at a walking distance of 5 minutes from the Moolchand metro station. Lajpat Bhawan has two entry gates. Go to Gate Number 2, not Gate Number 1 and walk straight ahead from the gate. You will see the sign board of the shop.
If you do happen to drop by, do let me know what books you picked up in the comments below!
