“Man’s real home is not a house, but the Road, and that life itself is a journey to be walked on foot.” ― Bruce Chatwin, What Am I Doing Here?
I was sitting on my bed, thinking about an intriguing topic to write about. A topic, to which people would give a second thought after reading. But the list of topics that ran through my mind was not a big one. I started to dig deep into my thoughts, but could not find one that provoked my curiosity. The fact that I could not come up with a suitable topic made me feel sad. Rather than the erstwhile happy researcher, I started feeling like a depressed loser.
I left my room and went outside for a walk, still hoping that the perfect topic would strike me like lightning from above. There was a sense of urgency in me. I needed to accomplish my intended goal today. As I walked outside, my mind felt more at ease. The clouds began to clear from my thoughts and I started to achieve mental clarity.
That’s the magic of a simple walk. Indeed, walks are wonderful and they deserve to be written about. Walking and romance also seem to be intertwined together. And that’s the moment that I decided to write about that topic. There have been so many instances where I have come across the beautiful juxtaposition of walking and romance. Watching romantic movies and listening to the love stories of other people have been some of these instances.
There is some kind of link between walking and talking. Something which always helps you understand your companion more clearly. I think the best way to understand the character of an unknown person is to go for a walk with him/her for about an hour. You will never feel bored during a walk. You just have the ample amount of time to say things and to understand each other’s feelings.
The right amount of silence between two people is enough to understand not just the words said, but the soul of that person. Ask someone about their love story and the couple will always tell a part of it, which includes a walk down the road or a walk on the beach. A walk during which their eyes meet, a sense of happiness runs down their spine and the the contentment of being with each other shines through the twinkle of their eyes.
So the next time that you want to get to know someone better, ask him/her for a long walk before going on a date. This will let you know the person better and can also save you from a boring date!
